Emergency Lighting Maintenance

All commercial premises need to have emergency lighting so that people can escape in the event of a power failure. It’s vital to provide an emergency lighting system to make escape routes safer for everyone in the building.

Don’t wait until a power cut to discover issues with your emergency lighting system. Our team of experienced, trained engineers can install, inspect, test and maintain your emergency escape lighting systems. We’ll ensure it’s in optimal working order so that you, the business owner, are compliant and have peace of mind.

What is emergency lighting?

When emergency strikes, be that a power outage or fire, you need systems in place to protect the people in your building. Your emergency lighting system is arguably the most important and a key part of a fire risk assessment. Escape lighting is there to illuminate high risk and high traffic areas, emergency routes, signage and fire safety equipment.

It’s there to automatically light up at risk zones and emergency exit signs if there’s a power cut. It will make sure that on-site escape routes are well lit to aid safe evacuation.

FAQs

Our extensive emergency light testing services help our clients to ensure that all safety signs (such as fire exits, and emergency escape routes) and lights are in full working order. We ensure that emergency lighting systems activate when the main power supply is switched off.

Our emergency lighting services comply with British Standard BS 5266. During a maintenance test, your emergency lighting system must be drained for 3 hours (as per British Standards requirements). The British Standard also recommends that each emergency light has a full-duration test once each year.

We can schedule regular tests to suit you. A monthly test is preferred by some, whilst others prefer a competent person (rather than professional) to self-check and contact us for in-depth annual tests. Full emergency light servicing is required annually. Chat to one of our friendly advisors to discuss what’s best for you.

The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 states that it is a legal requirement for commercial buildings to ensure exits and emergency routes are illuminated. You have a duty under this legislation to ensure the system is maintained, in efficient working order and in good repair.

There’s a series of codes of practice on emergency lighting systems (BS 5226). This British Standard ensures that emergency lighting is properly installed, maintained, and functioning during power failures and other emergencies. Compliance with BS 5226 is a legal requirement, but it’s also best practice for the safety of any occupants in your premises.
