Car Park and EV Charging Upgrade for CBRE at a London Data Centre
We are delighted to share the success of a recently completed project for CBRE at a prominent data centre in London. The project involved the installation of 27 bollard lights, 8 double electric vehicle (EV) chargers, line painting, ground works, and significant infrastructure upgrades to enhance the aesthetics, safety, and functionality of the car park.
Project Overview:
The client’s primary goals were to improve the aesthetics of their car park, ensuring it became a safer and more visually appealing space for users. They also sought to introduce an element of class and elegance, while being mindful of nature conservation. Special attention was given to preventing light pollution from the new bollard lights, safeguarding nearby trees and wildlife, including birds. Additionally, the installation of EV chargers aligned with the client’s sustainability initiatives, encouraging employees to transition to electric vehicles and contributing to a more eco-friendly building.

Scope of Works:
- Bollard Lighting: Installation of 27 bollard lights to enhance safety and visibility without disturbing local wildlife.
- Electric Vehicle Chargers: Installation of 8 double EV chargers to support the growing demand for electric vehicle infrastructure.
- Infrastructure Upgrades: This included running a new supply from the LV panel, wired using 240mm 4-core SWA cable, installation of an MCCB panel, two new distribution boards, and associated containment.
- Ducting and Cabling: SWA cables were buried within protective ducting, routed into the car park and integrated seamlessly into the EV charger pillars.
- Ground Works and Line Painting: All surfaces were restored, line markings were added, and the site was made good upon completion.
Execution and Challenges:
The project was completed over a five-week period, ensuring minimal disruption to the data centre’s operations. Despite the extensive ground works, we successfully maintained full access to the car park by utilising temporary access ramps, eliminating the risk of closures.
The only interruption to operations was a planned and controlled shutdown of the LV panel to terminate the new supply. This critical task was performed outside of normal working hours to minimize any impact on the client’s business.

Client Feedback:
The client expressed their satisfaction with the project’s outcome, particularly appreciating the careful planning and execution that prevented operational downtime. Their initial concerns about potential disruptions were alleviated through our proactive measures and clear communication.
CBRE was especially pleased with how the new bollard lighting improved the car park’s safety and appearance, while also protecting local wildlife. Additionally, the addition of EV chargers was a significant step forward in their drive toward a sustainable and eco-conscious facility.
This project showcases our commitment to delivering high-quality solutions that meet our client’s goals while ensuring minimal disruption and respecting environmental considerations.
